Seven months ago, I got a call.
It was a call promoting me out of my Assistant Manager position (that I never applied for), that I had been working in for just one month. Prior to that, I was a CSR for about 2 months upon entering the company.
Nevertheless, I got a call and was offered a Branch Manager position (that I never applied for) within my district. I accepted the opportunity but with that, I HAD TO SACRIFICE greatly. I had to commute to another city daily, sacrificing by not being close to my babies, sacrificing by having to fill up my gas tank every 4 days, sacrificing by having to be in the car 40 minutes a day, etc.. Yeah, I made good money but how much was I kicking back out and was it enough?! I actually considered demoting myself so that I could work back in my city to ease my burdens.
It was tiring, because I STILL had to deal with BIG GIRL heartbreaks in the process.
I kept going.
Life kept throwing something new and unexpected my way. All kinds of new struggles, all kinds of disappointments and letdowns, and a whole lot of stress. I prayed. I prayed. I prayed.
I kept going.
Back in January, the company flew us to South Carolina for the annual manager’s meeting. My Vice President found me, came over to where some other branch managers and I were chitchatting and asked if he could talk to me. “Don’t quit. Please don’t quit. I promise you as soon as I can put you where you want to be I’m going to do it. Just, DON’T QUIT.”
I didn’t quit.
My numbers have always been impressive but they got even better. I let go of some bad energy and distractions and I’ve been ranking in the 10% of the company since…while consistently being #1 in my district. God has definitely been turning my hard work into victory.
Today, I got a call…
I was offered the Branch Manager position (that I never applied for) in my very own city. A branch that has double the number of accounts. A branch that has a big, beautiful bonus structure so that I can better secure my children and I, financially. No more commuting. No more spending 40 minutes extra a day in the car.
For my upcoming birthday, I received what I’ve wanted for quite some time. I got my time back. I’m able to give more time and money to my kids and my personal goals/aspirations. The past seven months have taught me so many things. Though the sacrifices may be tough, the reward is worth it.
Keep Going. Don’t Quit.
Until Next Time…
